Krakatau Semen Indonesia introduces slag cement
KONTAN.CO.ID - SOUTH TANGERANG. PT Krakatau Semen Indonesia (PTKSI) held a workshop on the utilization of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS), commonly known as slag cement. Through this workshop, KSI introduced the benefits of slag cement to potential consumers for infrastructure projects.
The President Director of PT Krakatau Semen Indonesia, Bambang Tridoso Oktanto, explained that GGBFS is an eco-friendly and economically viable product for construction. "We believe that the benefits of GGBFS can compete in the market and become a new breakthrough for strategic infrastructure projects in Indonesia," said Bambang on Thursday at Hotel Mercure Alam Sutera (3/5).
Bambang added that the selling price of this product is more competitive compared to regular cement prices. The price comparison is below 20% to 30% of the average selling price of regular cement. "The profit from slag is very good because it doesn't require limestone as a raw material. We simply use the byproduct from steel production at PT Krakatau Posco," said Bambang.
He further highlighted other advantages of using GGBFS, including its ability to make concrete and mortar more chemically stable, increase compressive strength, provide a good surface finish, and offer brighter colors. Concrete mixed with GGBFS is suitable for infrastructure projects such as ports, bridges, roads, and high-rise buildings.
PTKSI's Slag Grinding Plant has a production capacity of 690,000 metric tons per year. Most of it will be absorbed by PT Semen Indonesia Plant Cigading, while the remainder can be taken up by the ready-mix concrete industry, lightweight brick companies, or other cement-based industries.
It's worth noting that PT Krakatau Semen Indonesia is a joint venture between PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk and PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. "In countries like Germany, it's already in use, but in Indonesia, we are the only player," Bambang stated.
Present at the workshop were the Director of Infrastructure Investment Development at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Masrianto, and the Head of Hazardous Waste Processing and Utilization Subdivision of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Amsor, who explained that GGBFS is an environmentally friendly product (green product) and no longer requires special permits for its use.
