PTKSI: High Quality, Slag Cement Cheaper Than Regular Cement
BUMNTrack - Many skyscrapers worldwide have already utilized Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag or slag cement as one of the ingredients in their building structure concrete. For example, Ten Hudson Yards in the United States, a complex of office buildings with a height of 273 meters, used 415 kilograms/m3 of slag cement as a concrete mixture component.
Recognizing the market potential for slag cement, many cement manufacturers in Indonesia have started using slag cement as a raw material for concrete mixtures. According to the President Director of PT Krakatau Semen Indonesia (PTKSI), Bambang Tridoso Oktanto, this trend is evident in the sale of 40,000 tons of slag cement in the first quarter of 2018.
The majority of these sales were absorbed by PT Semen Indonesia Plant Cigading, while the rest went to the ready-mix concrete industry or other cement-based industries. "We sell 40 percent to Semen Indonesia. The rest we sell to companies like Konch Cement, Serang Cement, and Holcim Cement," said Bambang.
He explained that consumers are switching to slag cement because its selling price per ton is lower by Rp 200,000 to Rp 300,000 compared to regular cement. It's worth noting that PTKSI started commercial sales of slag cement in January 2018, with a slag grinding plant capacity of 750,000 tons per year. "Currently, we are still focused on the Banten region and Jabodetabek," added Bambang.
